A closely woven, plain-weave cloth, usually made from cotton or linen yarns, similar to canvas.
Notes :
Duck is usually made of cotton, although sometimes linen is used. Different types of duck include: - Duck in which both warp and filling yarns are single; - Duck in which the filling yarns are single and warp yarns plied; - Duck in which both warp and filling yarns are plied.
The terms canvas and duck have become almost generics and are usually qualified by terms that indicate the use of the cloth, e.g. Royal Navy canvas, artist's canvas, duck suiting, belting duck...Terme :
